Staying Healthy With Sport
There are many ways for us to keep fit and live our lives in a healthy way. Along with just exercising alone, competitive sport could also be a useful technique in keeping our heart rates up and the cholesterol down. Whatever you decide to do, keeping a weekly commitment to train and play will improve your weight, confidence and well-being.
One of the reasons some sport can be an effective method to get fit is that it provides a level of distraction not available when simply exercising on our own. Our place on the points table, the placing of the players on the team, and marking and bothering our opposing players become the real point of attention. Team sports are perhaps the best way to keep motivated, as we have a host of peers that we can play with that will keep us motivated and on-target. Having designated practice times is also highly advisable. For example, having a training session on Tuesday, Thursday and then a game day on Saturday might give us the minimum level of exercise we need to keep healthy, while we also have fun, meet people and communicate with others.
Another benefit is that there is an identifiable goal to look forward to at the finish of the season. If we’re committed to winning the trophy or making the finals, then we’ll be very motivated all season long.
The bad side of all this, of course, is that after the season is over, it probably will not be for around another six months that it can start up again. During this break, then, we can become committed to keeping fit for next year’s season, or we can look for another sport to start during that time.
Moments when we’re disheartened and tired will inevitably occur all the time. It’s at those moments that we need to really push ourselves, although all our desire will be gone. It’s at this time that what is within the person will have to take the challenge. When someone is able to have the confidence and will to push on when all desire is gone, this points to a great self-esteem, and these kinds of lessons can live on after the season is over.
