Electric Golf Trolleys - Do You Have To Be Over 65 To Benefit From One?

May 5th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

If you had asked me this question no more than 8 months ago, I would definitely have said yes. The main reason is my ego - I am 46 years old, and I have seldom used a pull trolley, never mind an electric golf trolley.

My reasons for this view were simple:

- I walk a lot less during a round of golf, because there aren’t any no-go areas if you are carrying a golf bag.
- I can concentrate on my next shot, instead of worrying about my golf trolley being in my golfing partner’s way.
- Only old people use electric golf trolleys!

However, my opinion has changed very recently. My game has gradually got worse and worse since I turned 40, even though I had significantly increased my practise hours to try to put things right. No matter what I tried, my handicap just kept on increasing, so I sat down to review my score cards to see if I could spot any pattern (e.g. were certain holes killing my score). This quickly identified that most of my high scores happened during the final six or seven holes, which i couldn’t work out, because my three favourite holes are 15, 16 and 18.

It wasn’t until I was discussing my findings during a game, that my usual playing partner said “You are obviously tiring from hole 11 or 12! You need to save a bit of energy - forget your silly ego about remaining young, and buy yourself an electric golf trolley!”.

Well - I couldn’t forget about my ego, so I used my dad’s electric trolley, and I went to the course when i didn’t think any of my usual playing partners would be around. The improvement was startling - the first round, I knocked five shots off my average score, and, even better, I didn’t need a sleep when I got home! I used my dad’s trolley five times in all, and my scores were consistently much better than my average, and I felt much less tired - my golf became enjoyable again!

Convinced, I treated myself to an electric golf trolley, and i haven’t looked back since. My average score is eight shots less than when I was carrying a golf bag, and I can now do something after a round, rather than simply falling asleep in front of the TV! I am a firm believer that anyone over the age of about 35 would greatly benefit from buying an electric golf trolley. The fact that you are less tired allows you to concentrate better, and it also stops you from hitting lazy, tired golf shots.

I know I sound like Victor Kiam (if you remember him, you definitely need an electric golf cart!), but “I was so impressed with electric golf trolleys, that I bought a company to sell them”. Really funny golfing accessories.

April 25th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

After recently looking across the interent for an awsome looking golfing gift for my dad it made me laugh to see just how funny some of the items on the net for golf can be. After previously getting him one of those fancy electric golf trolleys I decided to get him a smaller gift but something that would make him or I laugh. These are just some of my current favourites.

Bound to have a laugh with this exploding ball
This has to be one in which I offer to caddy for him when we are away in Florida. All you have to do is here is bet the golfer cant hit the ball further than you and put the ball down to see it explode when the club hits it. This is by far the one that is going to make me laugh the most.

The golf ball that will smash through anything
This also a great joke for when he is halfway through a round a golf. Simply stick the sticker to the windshield of a car and stick half a golf ball that is provided to look like a ball has gone through the front of his car. Brilliant!

Golf on the toilet
This is a product he currently already has but thought it really deserved to be put down on the list. Simply lay the mat down when your on the loo and you have you own little green, putter and golf balls to practice with. This is perfect for the place you never thought you could play the game.

The ultimate golfers toilet roll.
This is another toilet themed product as the toilet roll is packed with funny cartoon golfers as well as great quotes to amuse any golfer when on the loo playing the potty putter.

The Wobbler.
This is one of the last ones I saw when I was looking through several websites. Give them this ball when they are practicing their putting as the ball never ever goes straight. This is great as you get to see the golfers anger build up as it misses every single time.

So charge up those golf batteries and get these great items up on the course for a laugh at the golfers expense!

Can golf still be regarded as a top sport in the eyes of children?

April 18th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

The last few years has seen a huge decline in the amount of younger people playing sports like golf. But what is the real reason for this? It certainly isn’t down to kids not wanting to use the electric golf trolleys.
One of the major reasons a lot of young people do not wish to take up the sport is the fact that their dad plays it every other day. It can also be said that if a youngster is going to play golf they are bound to be picked on if they are seen wearing some of the outfits golfers have to wear on some of the courses. As far as I remember the kids at my school that played golf (and there weren't many) were only friends with the other kids that played golf.

I do not understand why people see golf as a old mans sport and not like all the other major sports like football and rugby. Although golf is a high profile sport, most children would sadly prefer to play football or rugby than give the sport a chance. To a certain extent this is untrue as I know an 8yr old boy who loves the game and plays it every Saturday. The problem is he wants to give it up to play football and gardening club instead. How can gardening be better than playing a round of golf I mean really? Is the game really seen to be that boring to the younger people? Although not liking the sport myself I also do not like football or any other of the major sports so i'm certainly not biased against the sport.

To be honest with you I certainly think that kids would benefit from playing golf than a lot of the other sports out there. One of the best things golf has is that the players really don't swear, throw tantrums and everything else footballers love to do which is great as it teachers kids the real way to behave when you are playing a sport. As well as this, other than the huge promotional money they bring in the only other money is if they actually win a tournament rather than getting paid stupidly high amounts of money every week.
So charge up those golf batteries kids and get playing!

The top golf courses in the world

April 15th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

Here are my personal top five courses from places all over the World. Get those electric golf trolleys ready, here come the best of the best.

5. Number five is Shinecock Hills golf club
This is a brilliant course that has been the host to four US opens. Really very challenging, easily going to struggle to get your usual handicap on this course. This course was designed way back in 1891 and had major works to it in 1930 and since then the course has remained in pretty much the same way, which of course is brilliant.

4. The oldest course ever? St Andrews
This is more than likely the oldest golf course in the world with golf rumoured to have been played here way back in the 12th century. Although this course is the home of golf it apprently doesnt treat newcomers very well. This is a course that you have to get to know before you like playing here so many other golfers have said.

3. Cypress point golf club
the vast majority of people will never get a chance to play on this course as it only has 250 members but the last few holes have been called the best in golf. This had to come into the top five, I have never actually played this course but always wanted too.

2. Royal County Down golf course is at number two
This course has been voted the best course in the UK, locaded in Ireland it was designed way back in 1889 with huge modifcations made in 1908. This took the number two slot simply because it is a fantastic course with some of the best golf I have ever played.

1.Pine Valley golf course
This course is stunning both in looks and in the way it plays which is why in my opinion it has taken the number one spot in this list. Great caddies and a brilliant course apart from the 10ft deep bunker with no sand in it! Get it in that bunker and you are truly stuffed.

There you have it my personal favourite top five course in the world. No need to charge up those golf batteries when you have the caddies at these places to drag your clubs around for you.

Have a bit of fun when playing golf with these golf gadgets

April 13th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

So here it is the top five golf gadgets to help improve your addiction to sport. These gadgets can also be used in the home enviroment which is great for when you cant be bothered to go up to the golf course but still want a little golf in the day. Some of them could even help improve the normal electric golf trolleys.

5. The automatic golf tee
Brilliant for when you are practicing driving at your local golf course as this holds around 30 balls and at the push f your club the ball will automatically get put onto one of the tees which is a great idea for saving time watching the ball fall off the tee every time you bend down to put it there.

4. The big daddy driver
Although of course it is cheating it is brilliant for getting yourself out of a tough spot in the game. This gadget is brilliant for when you get stuck in the rough as it actually cuts the grass off so you can take your shot as well as being cleverly disguised as a driver. This is a really great gadget.

3. a golf club that keeps your drink in the club
This is great as it looks like a normal club but pours any liquid you put into it straight into a cup at the touch of a little hidden button. This is a great idea for when you don’t want to pay for the overpriced drinks at the clubhouse.

2. A island for chipping onto for all those pool owners
Great idea if you have your own swimming pool as you can attempt to chip the ball onto the island. These actually stick to the little island as they are made of velcro which is great as you wont have to keep jumping in to get the balls if you are half decent at chipping. Better than having your own pool is using the local public pool and making everyone go and get the golf balls for you!

1. The remote controlled golf ball
If your struggling in your short game why not use the remote control ball and have a laugh as everytime your ball goes into the hole at a push of a button. Although cheating this is a great during a recreational round as you can have a great laugh cheating all your friends.

Although your better off buying the plain golf gadgets like golf batteries these will help you if you want a bit of laugh whilst playing.

Are sports like golf being lost to computer games?

March 24th, 2009 Senior Golf 0 Comment

Sporting games can appeal to anyone at all which is a huge problem for the real sports as they really only apply to the people who actually play the game itself. Are the comuter games getting close to the real sports or is it just me? Do you burn the same amount of calories playing them on a game? The real answer to this question is . . . perhaps.  Obviously if you are buying say a golf game for the 360 or PS3 it is not going to do anything apart from save you money on one of those electric golf trolleys.

The only real aspect of the golf game that you are going to lose out on if you were to purchase a computer game on the Wii is the waking part. To be fair most of the pro. Game devlopers are always looking to improve the games they are making and this has become more of a competition than anything and the Wii is taking advantage of this by using its powerful motion sensing technlogy. When you’re playing golf it feels like you are playing golf and the same goes for tennis and any other sport where you only really use your hands. The brand new attachment for the Wii, out later this year, means that motion sensing technology is going to propel even more forward. This is going to mean that game devlopers are going to try even harder to make the games more realistic than ever before. So is this really having an affect on anything? It's a great way to save some pennies in the long run if you cant afford to go out and pay to play the sports. No need to even be dressed in your best golf gear to play golf on any of the consoles, a great idea.

I really do love games, but I personally think that they should stick to making the games that people that play them like and leave the sporting ones out of it. Some sports like golf involve huge talent and it would be a shame to see less and less of that develop over time because of computer games.

So next time your stuck between going out in the rain for a round of golf or plugging in the Wii for a bit of a game, stop and think, the real thing is always better so charge up those golf batteries and get playing!
